Earthquake is part of our life in NZ! ha!

Wellington is directly on the fault line. The last major earthquake in Wellington was 1855 at magnitude 8.2.

New Zealand is a small country, no matter where you live, chances of experiencing the earthquake are about the same.

Thanks bob for your kind reply and advice. i agreed that the distance of these two places is one of my major considerations. i have not been to Perth; but in 2006 i visited few places in NZ, except wellington. although i have not been wellington but from your blog here; i am sure wellington deserved to be awarded the world's best small city.
i understand that earthquake does happen in NZ, does it effected wellington city?

I enjoy reading your blog.

Hi mae,

Thanks for visiting my blog.

I have never been to Perth, can't really give a good city to city comparison, but I guess, one of the reason one would choose Perth could be because of distance. It is only 5 hours flight from KL to Perth as compared to 10 hours to NZ.

Wellington has recently (few days ago) rated the best small city in the world (will blog about time sometime), it is a lovely small city and you can walk from one end to another end of CBD in minutes, it is very friendly, peaceful, accessible, walk-able city. However, if you like hustle and bustle of big cities, wellington is not for you.

In general, skilled workers are still in demand especially IT industry. You can check the jobs that you are looking for at seek.co.nz website. If you can speak fluent English with good interpersonal skills, I don’t see there is any problem to find a job here. Most of the immigrants that they can’t find a job is because either they can't speak English very well or they have no relevant working experience. Most people when first landed in NZ, they can easily find temp job while looking for permanent one. Temp jobs are plenty and do not have to go through stringent recruitment process. It is a good way to gain what they called ‘kiwi experience’.

Hope this help! Feel free to ask if you have other questions.
